Drabble #01

The night I became a wolf, I cried.

This was a curse that I had to endure for who-knows-until-when casted upon me by an evil witch, who I bumped into when I was once a human.

Everyone's scared of me now, so I am all alone, walking in the dark, in the middle of the woods.

I would like to feel the tears flowing from my eyes just like when I was still a human but — nothing.

Whimpers.

I have never felt alone in the dark like this before — walking in very long dark woods that seemed endlessly with a lonely heart and no hands to hold. Now, everyone's scared of me too and they no longer recognize me.

I am a wolf.

A lonesome wolf that terrifies everyone.

"Endure, remember and learn. Once you do, the curse will be lifted."

I remembered the witch had told me. Being honest, I never quite understood her statement. It was kind of confusing with no further explanation. What should I do to become normal again?

Endure.

Remember.

Learn.

When I was in a human's form, I did some things to a human that a wolf does. — At least that's what I see myself doing. Remembering those days gave me regrets and guilt. It made me think that, if I hadn't done what I did in the past, what could have gone better? Will I be in this situation?

Lost in thoughts, I came across a small cave and took a good night's sleep. I feel exhausted from my journey as a wolf and as I lay down inside the dark and gloomy cave, I found myself whimpering.

Laughters woke me up. When my eyes shut wide open, I stood up with my four legs and stretched before walking out the cave to check what's going on. As I walked out from the dark cave. I was almost blinded by the lights of the sun. I blinked to adjust my sight and caught my eyes as people were playing snowball fights.

Ah ~ the nostalgia seeing these humans play snowball fights and their laughter as they have fun. I remembered the days when me, my family and I used to have fun too. Those were the days when everything's still great.

That's in the past. But the future can still be better.

They stopped playing and laughing as soon as they spotted my aura.

"Wait, don't run! I am not gonna hurt you!"

I wanted to say as a human but since I am now a wolf, I let out a growl — a terrifying one that made everyone run. I must be really terrifying in their sight to run off like that. I couldn't blame them because if I was in their shoes, I'd run too if I'd seen an actual wolf right in front of my eyes. I just continued my journey, anyway. It was so sad that I turned into a real actual wolf, all alone and a total loss. I have no idea what I should do right now except to keep on walking to wherever. I did nothing but follow where my feet would lead me.

I couldn't count the days I was walking, trying to find a way on how to turn back to normal until I bumped into some wolves like me except they really are wolves. I could understand what they were saying because I am in a wolf's form for now.

"I've never seen you before here," the first wolf I bumped into said. "Where were you from?"

"I know that you would not believe me, but I came from the city all away here," I answered. "Would you like to hear my story?"

"Okay," The wolf answered. "And let us know if there is something we could do to help you."

And with that, the wolf led me to their cave and there, I told my whole story. Good thing that they had knowledge about curses and how to lift the curse aside from what the witch told me.

"The witch's instructions were true but hearing what you said makes me think that she got some tricks, be careful of the witch." The wolf warned.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"That witch was wicked and I knew that you weren't expecting that. It's true that you have to endure, remember, and learn; however, you have to get rid of something quite difficult.".

I never understood this wolf and I never understood why the wolf couldn't just get to the point? But it was a good thing that I crossed these wolves, at least I got warned earlier than the danger.

" On the 1st of January, the blood moon, the big black wolf will be appearing under the blood moon with the witch. The night of the big black wolf's appearance, you can return to your original form by beating that wolf. The three words she stated were clues on how you could take down the big black wolf to return to your form."

"You must be kidding! But if that's the only way to return back to my original form — my human form, then I will fight the big black wolf. It'll be a very hard challenge, but sure. I will"

I was determined to defeat the black wolf no matter what. That's why I began my preparations with the help of the wolves I encountered. They were too nice to help me train for my upcoming battle so I had to do my best on this one and take back what's mine — my original form. I kinda miss being a human already, you know that?

When the 1st of January came, I waited for the big black wolf to come and the witch. The moon appeared full and bright white when I first saw it then turned red as soon as the witch and the big black wolf came out into the picture.

Finally, my opponents have shown up.

"Oh, we meet again. Judging by your looks and stance, you're planning to fight the big black wolf, am I right, former human?"

Although I am a wolf, I knew that she could understand me. After all, she was the one who cursed me so I answered,

"Who wouldn't want their original form back? I am taking back what's mine."

The witch's laughter filled the surroundings.

"If you wish, then let me grant it,"

And with that said, the big black wolf dashed towards me and then I tackled it. I was at a disadvantage, I knew that. He was bigger and I knew that this wolf was stronger than I was.

But I never cared. Even though everything's not in my favor, I'd definitely not give up. I may be weak, but giving up was never in my option.

As he tackled me, I was at the bottom so I tried to budge. I couldn't kick him away so I bit his ears with my fangs, scratched with my paws and kicked with my legs using my full strength. The big wolf was now on the bottom but he kicked me and I flew right away because of his unbelievably strength.

I growled and whimpered then got back to my feet. I shook my head then shot him a glare. I'd expected that this wolf would be hard to defeat so I'd need to be more patient and to think of better tactics.

No, I refuse to give up.

Not until I get what I wanted.

I dashed towards him and head-butted him. He whimpered and so was I. Before he regained his balance, I began scratching his face and then scratched it more then bit his ears before he was able to have a chance to attack me. But not because you're slow, it doesn't mean you could never win. And not because you are quick, it means you can always win.

We kept on literally rolling, fighting and biting each other and I almost thought that I'd lose but I did not. I won and got back what's mine.

"Useless wolf," the witch remarked with her eyes furrowed, annoyed aura could be felt all around her then she was about to kill the wolf — the wounded wolf.

"Why would you say that?" I asked. I admit that I was mean, violent at objects and a bad girl, but I never liked the idea of harming living things. "And why would you do that to your ally? You're insane more than I" I said as I threw the dagger towards her hand, the one she's gonna use to kill the wolf.

"I'm done with here, I'm leaving" I said casually then walked back to the wolves who helped me out with everything. I crouched and smiled at them.

"Hey, it's me. I finally defeated and got back my body. It's thanks to your training," I told them as I paid their heads.

My adventure as a wolf was finally over.

And now, it's time to go home and have another adventure as a human.
