Whilst self-publishing started to grow and grow day by day, there are authors who still wanted to go for traditional publishing for their own reasons.
Like any aspiring published author, I’ve always wanted to turn my manuscript into an actual book starting off with self-publishing my poetry book, “The Time We Had”, and after self-publishing my book, I decided that I want to have my different manuscript published by a traditional publisher and have them distributed into local bookstores in the Philippines.
Although I have self-published a poetry book, I’m still wondering what it’s like to become a published author. I wanted to start locally, so I started to search for different traditional publishers in the Philippines where aspiring traditional authors, like me, can send their manuscripts.
As I explore the internet, I found popular traditional publishers and I also found lots of new and growing traditional publishers which I will be sharing both:
POPULAR AND ALREADY EXPANDED PUBLISHERS:
1. PopFiction

PopFiction was launched by Summit Books last March 2013 after the book “She’s Dating The Gangster” was published in CandyMag and became a hit to the readers. PopFiction distributes its books to different bookstores like National Bookstore, BookSale, etc. They also have Cloak Fiction or books under the mystery, horror, fantasy, etc. genres.
I’m sure that the majority of people have already seen the quality of the books they produce especially the book cover. You probably have already bought a couple, collected or if not, you have probably at least seen them displayed on the shelves of your local bookstore. They, however, only print paperback, not hardbound.
When I was younger, I collected so many PopFiction books because of the cover and the style. I really loved the artwork and illustrations in their printed books. At that time, I dreamt of publishing my book with them so in today’s time, although I’m quite a bit late (because I stopped writing a long time), I tried sending my manuscript.
I submitted my manuscript to their email address, booksubmissions@summitmedia.com.ph, and have yet to receive a response. The aspiring author who submitted their manuscript can follow up if they didn’t get a response after 60 days.
Take note that in submitting your manuscript, a specific format must be followed.
Your manuscript must be written in Times New Roman, 12 font size.
You may find their guidelines HERE.

National Bookstore is Anvil’s mother company. They also distribute to Goodwill Book Store, Rex Book Store, Solidaridad, Central Book Store, Popular Book Store, Rustan’s Gaisano chain, Fairmart, Landmark, Page One, and Dymocks Book Stores.
I have a copy of the self-help, social law book published by Anvil and I personally really loved the quality of the printing, paper, and book covers. The quality of their printing motivated me to submit a well-written manuscript to them.
Anyway, like any other publishing company, Anvil also has its required format when it comes to submitting your manuscript and they only accept manuscripts every first quarter of the year. You must make sure that you read and follow their instructions first before submitting.
You may navigate this website if you want to learn more about publishing your manuscript through them: https://www.anvilpublishing.com/submissions/

Their business started off the year 1992 by three people who have seen potential in Filipino Romance Pocketbooks which is why you would notice that they have different genres but usually features Filipino romance books.
Bookware’s printed books are My Special Valentine and Pink & Purple which are all distributed to local bookstores like National Bookstore. They sell different genres, but they mostly sell Tagalog Romance Pocketbooks.
At the moment, they are only accepting horror stories. If you want to know when they are opening for romance or other genres submission again, you have to follow their pages to stay tuned.
You can send your manuscript and find further details by navigating this link: https://www.bookwarepublishing.com/manuscript-submissions/
Please make sure to follow their instructions before sending your manuscript.
4. PSICOM

PSICOM Publishing is also a very popular traditional book publisher that distributes to local bookstores like National Bookstore too. They have printed and published so many Wattpad books since 1990. They also adapted books into manga like “Diary Ng Panget”, “Voiceless”, “She Died” etc. In the past, I collected some mangas and novels printed by PSICOM Publishing and VIVA PSICOM.
At present, PSICOM is not accepting traditional manuscripts. But they have a self-published business, “Sanctum Press”, where I also self-published my poetry book, “The Time We Had”.
But if you want to know when are they going to open for submissions, you should follow their social media pages.
START-UP GROWING TRADITIONAL PUBLISHERS:

So far, the traditional publishing companies listed above are the ones that I found. In my next article, I am going to list the local SELF-PUBLISHERS I found and inquired about as self-pub authors. If I ever missed a traditional publisher from the Philippines, you may comment down on my post.
